the Praise Hour

Every Thursday, I take over the campus radio station for one hour. I say "take over" because I hit that station with something it doesn't get, any other time of the week. Christian music. Every other hour of the week is typically filled with one of two things. Rap or Rock. There is no way that the entire community of Arkadelphia can be categorized as only listening to two genres. I'm a mass media major, and so it is part of my degree program for me to participate in the radio station. I never thought I'd like radio, but it truly is a blast. For one hour, every week, I get insurance that I can do nothing but sit around and listen to music that I like.

I wanted a way to find out if anyone was actually listening to what I was broadcasting. So, as a way to get feedback, I began my CD giveaway contest. Every week, about 20mins into the show, I stop giving the title and artist information for the music that I am broadcasting. The first listener to call in and identify one or the other, wins a CD. I'm happy because I know at least one person is listening, and they're happy because they just one a free CD.  Today's winner was Tracie Cross, who was up in NWA for the craft fairs, thanks for listening, and thanks for calling, Mrs. Cross!

The broadcast can be heard on the station's website, as well as here in Arkadelphia, fm99.9.

Every Thursday, I go on the air from 3pm-4pm (central), with a show called "the Praise Hour". The station is normally a "Rap&Rock" station, but for one hour a week, they let me broadcast praise and worship music. I also give away a CD, on the air, every week. Tune in and win yourself a free CD, just for listening!

Here on the Henderson Campus, and for the surrounding areas, you can tune into the radio station at fm99.9. The station also has a web broadcast, that can be heard anywhere in the world. The easiest way to find this broadcast is to go to my website, www.CameronMagee.com, and follow the link.  On the KSWH website, click on the "live broadcast" link on the right side of the site.

I go on the air in less than an hour, but I'll be sure to post again after the show's over.

Tiger Tunes Time!

I'm sure of at least 2 Tigers returning to their natural habitat this weekend. The town is going to be packed. Arkadelphia is not used to all of the extra excitement, and I'm sure that the entire Henderson Campus will hibernate in their dorms for the weekend, waiting for the festivities to blow over.

I, on the other hand, will be a Tiger this weekend. My Reddie Spirit is alive and well, of course, but the Tiger's blood will be flowing through my veins all weekend long.

With Aubrey being a music education major over at OBU, she will be heavily involved in Tiger Tunes. Her family is coming into town this weekend, so I've got a fun weekend ahead. Her dad is one of the two tigers that I was speaking of, so he'll be all over the campus shaking hands with his former fraternity brothers, I'm sure.

Looking forward to an exciting, fun filled weekend here. I hope everyone else has exciting plans for the two days as well!

the big 91%

We've got three tests this semester.
1. First half test
2. Second half test
3. the Final

There are no homework assignments, no in-class assignments either. He only takes those three grades, for the whole semester.

Also, he only looks at letters. I got a 91%, but I might as well have gotten a 99%, it's all an A to him.

Anyway, college is going great. I had my priorities backwards in High School, and it's only by God's grace that I made it to college how I did. Now that I'm here, it's actually a better environment for me than high school ever was.

As I said earlier, I went home this weekend. (thanks for the photo for today, Paul!)  Chad was going out of town, and asked me to drive up and cover the service FOH duties for him. I gladly accepted, on the condition that Chetley would be in attendance. Chet and I took care of it, and the service ended up turning out great. Chetley did all the dirty work down on stage, leaving me with buttons to push and knobs to turn, to my heart's desire. With him covering everything, I get to do what I'm there to do, mix audio.

Audio mixing is considered an art form by many. In the same way that a symphony conductor communicates more and less sound from his instruments. From the soundboard position, the audio engineer is essentially a conductor of instruments. A conductor points to a section of french horns for more sound. An engineer turns up a fader. The same respect that I give conductors, I give to audio engineers. A good engineer is better than a good conductor. The "sound" of a group can be controlled by a conductor, of course. However, when the venue grows to large for the group to fill naturally, the sound must be enforced. Sound Reinforcement is what live audio is all about. To reproduce, in as true of a form as possible, the sounds that you would normally experience, for every person in the audience to feel as if they are getting a personal concert.

The service went great, thanks to Rick Mangrum behind the wheel. If Ken needs to skip town for any reason, he can always count on Rick to cover the bases for him, loaded or not. Thanks a lot, Rick, for always understanding my side of things, and being understanding of the media team.

I missed seeing the Gautier family this week. They were camping. I got to see Dave, Paul and Kerry though. My media family, all together again. Hopefully Chad will get to come down this weekend, and see the dorm!
